The Nariño Governorate led an encounter with representatives of indigenous communities and various Higher Education Institutions (IES), with the aim of defining actions to guarantee a relevant, accessible higher education and with an intercultural approach. The communities raised needs such as differential quotas, programs consistent with the territories, university fairs in rural areas and access to complete scholarships. In response, the IES and the Departmental Government agreed on the following actions:
1- Present a joint proposal with quotas, scholarships and programs with intercultural approach.
2- Request from the Ministry of Education a differential public policy for indigenous peoples.
3- Promote SENA technical courses adapted to the realities of each community.
Rubiel Chasoy, rector of the IE IEE of Aponte, of the municipality of El Board de Gómez, highlighted the purpose of transforming the territories from the classrooms. Edwin Chávez, authority of the Quillasinga people, valued the collective construction of an educational route rooted in ancestral knowledge. Rodrigo Duque López, an advisor for higher education, stressed that for the first time a public policy built together with the communities is projected. The Ministry of Departmental Education, the Nariño Superior program, institutions of higher education, the SENA and indigenous authorities participated in the day. The meeting represents a decisive step towards a more just and territorial higher education.
